The leadership development component is an integral part of both the summer and academic year components of MLI.
MLI uses a variety of resources to support leadership development. Lead teachers may engage in a variety of roles, such as content-specific planning on a regular basis, one-on-one mentoring, or advising on appropriate mathematics programs. We believe that teaching and leadership is context dependent and a school's or teacher's needs cannot be met using canned programs. Through our development, lead teachers learn to become resourceful, selective and flexible in addressing the particular problems at hand in their schools.
The communication model developed by Mark Driscoll and Grace Kelemanik at the Center for Leadership and Learning Communities, Education Development Center in Newton, Massachusetts serves as an overarching framework for effective interpersonal relationships essential to leadership.
